How to install and adjust a gobo holder in a Canto followspot
This video walks through the basic steps for installing and using a gobo holder in Canto followspot products. Shawn Harmon explains where the accessory sits in relation to the iris, how to open the holder with a Phillips head screwdriver, and how to place the gobo between the two plates before reinstalling the six screws.
The demonstration also covers inserting the assembled gobo holder into the fixture with the flat side toward the lamp and the arms toward the talent. Shawn notes that gobos appear upside down and backwards in the unit, so the image must be oriented accordingly before the followspot is powered on and aimed.
If the gobo needs to be rotated after installation, the video shows how to use the cleaning door and the screw at the top of the mechanism to allow rotation. It also points out a common mistake: if that screw is not tightened again, the mechanism can keep rotating when the iris is used.

Hi! Shawn Harmon here today from Canto to talk to you about installing and using the gobo holder in our followspot products. An accessory that we also provide here at Canto USA is our gobo holder. This gobo holder is meant for glass or for steel, A size or B size. It's pretty easy to use. We typically put this in the same spot as the iris goes. So, just be aware you're going to choose gobo or iris. To put the gobo into the unit we're going to take our trusty Phillips head screwdriver and we're going to unscrew all six of these screws. Okay, now that I've got those screws off this becomes two plates, then I put my gobo here, then I'm going to replace this plate, and I'm going to replace all six of my screws. Okay, now that I've got my six screws in I'm going to pull the side screws just like I did for my iris, for its installation. I'm gonna set this aside, I'm gonna remove the screws from my iris, keeping a hand underneath, so that when I drop the screw which is inevitably going to happen. Okay, now that I'm ready to put this in. Once again flat side toward the lamp, arms toward the talent. Remembering before we put this in, gobos are upside down backwards. So, if you want the image to be like this you have to turn it upside down and backwards. If you've never done this before you'll probably get it wrong for the first or second or maybe even third time but you'll figure it out. It will make sense. Replace our two screws. Now our gobo is in place. Once we have it in place we turn the fixture on like normal. We point it where we would like for it to go. If for some reason this gobo is not orientated the way you want and you want it turned a little bit, not a problem. You don't have to disassemble this. What you do have to do is open up this cleaning door and there's a screw here in the top. We'll just loosen that up a little bit and when you do it makes this whole mechanism able to rotate. See how we have a little rotation going on. I can even open it up a little bit more and rotate all the way to the expense of where the standoffs will let me. Once you have it in place put this screw back. Now one of the mistakes that people make in this is they loosen that screw, they put the gobo in the way they want it, they're done with the gobo, they go to put the iris back in, they go to operate the iris, and this whole mechanism is rotating. The reason it's rotating is because that screw on the inside is not seated correctly. It's not tight. So, to fix that, once again, just go back in right here. You can use your fingers or you can use a Phillips head screwdriver. Screw that Philips screw in good and tight and you should be good to go. Thank you for watching this video!
