How to install and use shutter blades in a Canto followspot
In this video, Shawn Harmon from Canto USA explains how shutter blades work as an accessory for a Canto followspot. He describes them as the top and bottom horizontal gates, sometimes called chompers, and notes that they are supplied in packs of four.
The demonstration shows where the blades fit in the gate area and how to slide the edge into the small sandwich-like slot before pulling it into place. Shawn also points out the orientation of the blade, with one end facing the lamp and the other toward the talent, so operators can position it correctly.
Once installed, the blades can be moved in and out and used on all four sides if needed. He mentions that they may lock slightly during installation, so entering at an angle can help them seat properly. The video closes by noting that the shutters are an optional accessory and can be used like shutter blades in an ellipsoidal fixture.

Hi! Shawn Harmon here with Canto USA here to talk to you about inserting and using shutter blades as an accessory. Now we're going to talk about one of the accessories that we offer at Canto. Sometimes designers feel like they need those top and bottom horizontal gates or chompers, as sometimes they're called. We have a shutter that we can sell you. These come in packs of four and they're really easy to install. There's a little sandwich place here in the gate area that you just slide the edge in and sort of pull it into place. You can operate that in and out and you can do it from all four sides if you need to. Actually I've got one. I've got this mechanism pulled out right now so we can take a look at it so you can see it easier. This is the part that goes toward the lamp and this is the part that's going out toward the talent. You can see here there's just these two little bit pieces of metal to show you where to put this and it's really simple. You just slide them in there and then they go in and out. They do lock a little bit so you have to come in at an angle to get them to stay in well. Once they're in there they stay in there easily. You can also use it just like a shutter in any ellipsoidal fixture and we sell you all four. So, if you need to do any of these four you can do that, just an option. Thank you for watching this video! If you have any questions about anything that we've covered please feel free to reach out to a Canto dealer or to us directly. Thank you very much! Have a great day!
