How to replace the lamp in a Canto MSR followspot
In this video, Shawn Harmon from Canto USA shows the basic steps for replacing a lamp in a Canto MSR followspot with a bottom lamp holder. The process is designed to be simple and toolless, making it a practical reference for operators who need a repeatable lamp change procedure.
Before starting, the video stresses that power should be disconnected from the wall and that the unit should be confirmed as an MSR fixture, not a FastFit model. For MSR fixtures, the lamp elevator drops down from the bottom of the unit after the quarter-turn knobs are loosened.
Shawn then shows how to remove the old lamp, install the replacement without touching the glass envelope, and make sure the lamp is seated correctly on the pins and pushed fully into place. The lamp holder is then raised and locked with the quarter-turn fasteners.
The video closes with a reminder to dispose of used lamps safely and recycle them when possible.

Hi! Shawn Harmon here with Canto USA to talk to you about replacing the lamps in your MSR Canto units. One of the things that you need to always keep in mind anytime you work inside of fixtures, disconnect the power from the wall. So, you're going to disconnect the ballasts from the wall. No power going at the fixture at all, okay. The second thing you want to make sure that this is not a FastFit unit. FastFit units have a plate right here that removes, the lamp goes in here. That's a different video. You're going to want to watch the FastFit lamp change out video. This is for the MSR fixtures. For the MSRs we have this elevator on the bottom. This is really easy, it's toolless. So, you're going to just take your fingers and then there are two little knobs that have a little key ring looking things on them, you're gonna loosen this one, they're quarter turns, and then the elevator is going to drop down like that. Now using these two fingers you're just going to kind of wiggle the lamp back and forth a little bit and it'll come right out. This is the old lamp. Now we're gonna put the new lamp in. Just like all the other fixtures we deal with in theater, do not touch the glass envelope, it lessens the lamp of the life and it's just a big waste of money in the end. We're going to want to feed this up into the reflector, don't put it in like this thinking that you're gonna get the pins to go on, you've got to make sure that you get up in there and down onto the pins, okay. Without touching the glass. So, I'm up in there and pushing back down. I'm just using these two fingers. I'm gonna seat this all the way down till this porcelain is touching the porcelain of the base. I'm gonna gently slide this back up, quarter-turn, push up, quarter-turn, make sure that it's good and solid, and I should be good to go to lamp the fixture on. Just like normal, please be sure to dispose of your lamps in a safe way. They are dangerous and you'll need to recycle those if possible. Thank you for watching this video!
