How to replace the reflector in a Canto followspot
In this Canto USA maintenance video, Shawn Harmon explains how to replace a reflector in a Canto followspot when lamp changes are no longer delivering the expected output. He notes that reflector wear is a normal part of fixture ownership and that the changeout is a straightforward service task.
The demonstration begins with a safety reminder to disconnect power before working inside the fixture. Shawn then shows removing the top with a number 2 Phillips screwdriver and taking out the reflector module, which is held in place by two screws. He also explains that, in some cases, you can replace just the reflector piece itself.
For reassembly, he places the module back carefully without touching the lamp glass envelope, loosely starts the screws, and then tightens them. He finishes by reinstalling the top with the fan grill aligned over the fan before reconnecting power and testing the unit.

Hi! Shawn Harmon with Canto USA here today to talk to you about replacing your reflectors. As fixtures start to age there comes a time when the lamp change is no longer giving you maybe the output that you think you are supposed to get. What's typically happening there is that the reflector is starting to deteriorate. This happens. It's just part of owning a fixture but the reflector change out is not a big deal. We're going to show you how to do that now. First thing you're going to do is disconnect the power, we always disconnect the power anytime we're messing around inside a fixture. The second thing we're going to do is we're going to remove these four screws, using our number 2 Phillips screwdriver. Now as we look inside the unit we're going to see that this module is sitting in there but it's only two screws and the new module looks like this. So, here's the reflector the first and the second condensing lenses. So, this is going to go in just like this, two screws. The module lifts right out. For this example I'm going to replace the whole unit. You can also just replace the reflector piece itself, it's really easy. It's one nut there, you loosen that up, you pull this piece of dichroic glass out, you put a new one in, and you put the nut back. So, there's two ways to do this. So, we're going to replace it just by putting it right back where it was being careful not touch the glass envelope of the lamp. I like to put both screws in kind of loose, make sure that I'm good, and then tighten up. Now we're going to replace the top making sure that the grill is over the fan. Once again, I like to put the screws in a little bit loose and then once I have them all in tighten them all up at one time. Alright! At this point you're ready to plug it back up and turn it back on. You'll probably see a significant output difference for the better. Thank you for watching this video!
